Forex bureau help & contact
Questions, answered.
The things customers ask most often about our rates and our twelve forex bureaux in Accra, and how to reach us when the answer is not here.
Rates
Why is your rate different from the one I saw online?
Search engines and news sites quote the interbank mid-rate. That is the rate banks use to trade with each other in millions, and nobody can walk in and get it. A bureau publishes a buy rate and a sell rate around it. Ours are published in full on the rate board, updated every trading morning at 06:30 GMT.
Is the rate the same at every bureau?
Yes. Every member bureau uses the group's board, so the rate is the same whichever counter you visit.
Do you buy currency back from me?
Yes, at the buy rate on the board, at any member counter. We check the notes before we pay for them.
Is there a minimum or a maximum?
It depends on the currency, so ask at the counter. Above GH₵100,000 the corporate desk takes over and quotes a better rate than the board.
At the counter
What should I bring?
Photo ID in your own name. For large amounts, call the bureau first so the notes are ready when you arrive.
What if a note I am given looks wrong?
Tell the teller before you leave and they will replace it there and then. Every note is machine-checked and counted in front of you. Count your notes before you leave the counter, because a dispute is much harder to settle once you have gone.
Are the bureaux licensed?
Yes. Each member bureau is separately licensed by the Bank of Ghana and can show you its licence at the counter. Perebrim Group LTD is the parent company. More on licensing.
When are you open?
The group's standard hours are Mon to Fri 08:00 to 17:00 · Sat 08:00 to 15:00. A few bureaux keep different hours, so call ahead if you are travelling far.
